This is my 4th reading of this devotional classic. This translation is slightly more modern than my printed version but still a bit more readable, even if it uses a lot of Elizabethan language. It covers a lot of the same ground as Teresa of Avila, DeSales, and DeCausade. Firmly rooted in the Catholic tradition, nevertheless it can be read, with profit, by those familiar with Wesleyan Holiness thought. Wesley's Plain Account of Christian Perfection is a still newer treatment of what it means to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Alfred Basta, PhD, is a professor of mathematics, cryptography, and information security as well as a professional speaker on topics in Internet security, networking, and cryptography. He is a member of many associations including the Mathematical Association of America. Dr. Basta's other publications include MATHEMATICS FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, LINUX OPERATIONS AND ADMINISTRATION, and DATABASE SECURITY.

Nadine Basta, MS, is a professor of computer science, information technology, and security. Her numerous certifications include MCSE, MSDBA, CCDP, NCSE, NCTE, and CCA. A security consultant and auditor, she combines strong "in the field" experience with her academic background. A lucid, beautiful novel with a sincere and sarcastic tone

Solal is the son of the chief rabbi of Cephalonia. He is on his way to become a highly recognised diplomat for the United Nations. He then falls for a sweet and beautiful French catholic girl, just on the eve of WWII. They get together, passionate, ignorant of their families' disapprovals. But the growing antisemitism affects Solal's love and behaviour, and he becomes sarcastic, irritable and guilty, in spite of Aurore's efforts to keep their love alive.This is written in a beautiful, original style by a wonderful and sincere author who deserve international recognition. His tone gets you to the insights of human brain, which he analyzes with an incredible lucidity. Read it !

Paige Penland is a Costa Rica–based freelance writer specializing in travel, science, and history. Penland lives and works in Costa Rica, and she has written several articles and guidebooks about Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Oaxaca, and Granada, San Juan del Sur & Southwest Nicaragua, all in the Explorer's Great Destinations series from Countryman.

Best ES guide book, period.

This book is great; Paige Penland has really done her homework. It's always been hard to find good information on El Salvador since it's not popular tourist destination, or a well-known country. This book is well organized, beginning with general information and history and culture. The guidebook portion is separated by region with sections on things to do, lodging, and restaurants. There are lots of good places listed from hostels to five star hotels. Everything is current since the book was just published in 2011. I own property in El Salvador and visit several times a year, but I'm learning so much more from this book. When I was down for Easter my Salvadoran friends wanted to steal it, so I'll be buying another copy to take them on my next visit.

More pictures and maps might be nice, but that would fatten it up a bit. At just under 300 pages, it's a good size and weight to carry around. If a guidebook gets too big, it's probably going to be left at home.

Organization seems a bit odd

The book contains 5 chapters (San Salvador, Western Beaches, Eastern Beaches, Western El Salvador, Suchitoto and the Artisan Route, Eastern El Salvador) based upon regions. Within each chapter she gives an overview of the region, followed by "To See", "To Do", "Green Space", "Lodging", "Where to Eat", "Selective Shopping" and "Special Events" sections. So if I arrive in a city I need to flip between many pages to know where to stay/eat and figure out what to see/do. Pretty annoying IMHO.

A couple of observations based upon reading the guide. Her "*" recommended places to stay are usually in the $$-$$$ range (out of $$$$). There are only 3 city maps (San Salvador, San Miguel, Suchitoto) which only contain "to see/do" points, not lodging/food points of interest. Each lodging option indicates whether credit cards are accepted and how handicap accessible it is. I found the "getting there" subsection very confusing; type-setting (fonts, indentation, color) would greatly improve the readability. The book could use a better proof-reader/editor to fix the English mistakes and clarify various entries (eg, museum listings with a street address but you have no clue which city it is located in).

NOTE: I have yet to travel in El Salvador to verify the information. It does seem more current than the older Lonely Planet El Salvador/Nicaragua guide book. It definitely contains more internet addresses to aid further research.
