Romance that transports the reader with its romantic tenderness

Jesse Manning got dumped. It's not just getting dumped but how she got dumped by her no-good boyfriend the second the pregnancy test reads positive. Cad, oaf and all around self-centered jerk are only a few words to describe the biological father of Jesse's baby. When Jesse collapses at the bar Green Garter, in steps Navy Chief Brock Sullivan, Navy SEAL. A man full of duty and honor, not only does he take her to the hospital but he offers her his house. That's not all he offer her! With deployment just a heartbeat away, this serious Navy man offers her marriage! Broke and needing to care for her baby, Jesse takes Brock up on his offer. Can this Navy SEAL give her something she has never had before? Can this dutiful and honorable man find that sometimes life is about more than duty and prowess?

Teresa Carpenter draws the reader into the heart of her romance from the very beginning as Jesse's boyfriend Tad brazenly and selfishly abandons her in the most insulting way possible to a mother-to-be. Immediately, the reader feels her dilemma alongside the pain and outrage. From his introduction, the reader feels Brock's desire for Jesse before he learns about her pregnancy. After the initial dramatic opening of this romance, Teresa Carpenter pulls the reader into the story through her characterization. Jesse and Brock are lovable characters, good people with good hearts who are kind to one another. Jesse has a heart of gold and just enough spunk to balance her dependence on Brock in this marriage of convenience. Brock is a man serious in his commitments, a man of honor, but also a man who thinks of women not just as duty but also with a romantic twist when it comes to their wedding. Brock is quite simply one great guy all the way around from his body to his heart and soul. With each scene, the reader sees more and more to love about both Brock and Jesse.

Despite the initial drama of the marriage of convenience, Teresa Carpenter's romance develops gradually as the hero and heroine come together through emails during his deployment. Through electronic letters, Teresa and Brock share their lives, their hearts, their laughter in manner that draws them together. Their relationship develops naturally, as their two hearts grow together gently. Jesse and Brock share a nice spunk, a spark of life and even fun humor between them as they respond to each other and life's events. Teresa Carpenter writes a beautiful scene in which Brock makes a connection between Jesse's baby and his life as a Navy man that creates a tribute to those who serve in the military. Several scenes between him and the baby endear Brock to the reader, as he moves into his role as father with love and a natural ease. Brock's return home exposes them both to a deeper level of sharing and vulnerability, but Teresa Carpenter has carefully laid the groundwork to believe in the hero and heroine's romance. The narrative itself in HER BABY, HIS PROPOSAL is very smooth and gentle. The ever so romantic tone of this book just transports a reader into their world.

Precise on ONE technique: Upper Structure Voicings - get it ?

This is an excellent book, and it fulfills exactly what it promises. Using upper structures has always been my favorite way to comp, orchestrate and visualize theory. Suzanne adds the concept of 'lower structures' (left hand of course) and the sonorities are rich, easy to get a grip on if you're comfortable at triads and inversions.
But she goes further and helps you apply LS and US to all chord types, not just dominants with altered tensions.

Yeah, there are dozens of US for every chord,, but the author trains you to use the best and most logical ones.

This sin't a book for people looking to get an all-round Jazz Piano lesson. This text is very precise and covers one very useful approach and tool set for serious pianists!

PS: - some earlier dude (calls himself a pro) complained about the exercises lacking rhythm.....LOL

About the Author
Julius H. Bailey is professor of religious studies at the University of Redlands in California. He earned a PhD in religious studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the author of Race Patriotism: Protest and Print Culture in the A.M.E.Church (2020).

A very serviceable introduction to the field

Bailey has written a serviceable introduction to African American religious history. Rather than focusing primarily on the Black Church (in terms of Christianity) he describes African traditional religions, the development and diversity of black churches, the rise of black new religious movements like the Nation of Islam, the civil rights movement, the prosperity gospel and black megachurches. Light on interpretation but often noting where scholarly perspectives diverge, the utility of this book will be as an introduction to the field.

(As an aside, I thought Fortress Press could've put a little more effort into the book's typesetting and print quality whereas other FP books I own evince a little more care. The subject is interesting enough to warrant it! A very good overview.)

About the Author
Bruce A. Arrigo, Ph.D., is professor of criminology, law, and society and professor of public policy within the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. In the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, he holds additional faculty appointments in the Psychology Department and in the Public Policy Program. In the College of Health and Human Services, he holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Professor Arrigo is also a faculty associate in the Center for Professional and Applied Ethics a teaching, research, and service unit of the philosophy department, a senior member of the University Honors College, and a faculty affiliate of Wake Forest University s Bioethics, Health, and Society Program. Arrigo is an award-winning researcher and scholar, who has authored or coauthored, and edited or coedited more than 30 books and edited volumes as well as more than 175 scholarly papers. His scholarship examines human justice and social welfare issues at the intersection of law, mental health, and society; theory, culture, and society; and deviance, violence, and society. His recent collaborative works in these areas include "The Terrorist" "Identity "(2007), "Revolution in Penology: " "Rethinking the Society of Captives "(2009), and "The Ethics of Total Confinement: A Critique of Madness, Citizenship, and Social Justice "(2011)." "Recent textbooks and reference works include" Ethics, Crime and Criminal Justice", second edition" "(2012), "Introduction to Forensic Psychology", " "third edition (2012), and "The Routledge Handbook of International Crime and Justice Studies "(2014). Arrigo is also the founding and current" "editor-in-chief of the "Journal of Forensic Psychology Practice". Arrigo is an elected Fellow of both the American Psychological Association (Psychology and Law, Div. 41) and the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. He is also a past recipient of the Bruce Smith, Sr., Award (for distinguished contributions in crime and justice teaching and scholarship), sponsored by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences; the First Citizens Bank Scholars Medal; and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Division on Crime and Juvenile Delinquency of the Society for the Study of Social Problems. Arrigo has served as a consultant to the Correctional Service of Canada, the National Institute of Justice, the National Science Foundation, and Savant Learning Systems. Not really systems

I have not finished reading this book. It does have a lot of useful articles that can help understand criminal behaviour. although it is getting dated now. Main main problem, since I come from a complexity-systems background is that although it uses the name, there is virtually no systems based approach. It is systems view in that it stresses that we should not get fixed on only studying one area and only end up with a partial view of an area where there are many different causes of criminal behaviour. What it does is collect articles from a wide range, but the articles themselves are not systems focused and do not use systems jargon or principles.

There are multiple errors in the book, namely within the mental illness chapter (i.e. psychopathy is not a personality disorder), overall the book is a useful resource for graduate and undergraduate students interested in criminology and forensic psychology.
