A must read series!

I would advise reading the whole series in sequence to get the full impact of the story. You will not regret it. The Changeling offers up so many surprises, as well as answers questions to long awaited puzzles. Danny has such a persona you can't help but be enthralled by him. As a reader who has followed this story Danny remains constant in his obsessions. The graphic sex is part of the story but not the whole storyline. The characters interaction and behavior extend beyond a graphic sex novel. The real questions must be who, why, when, Danny is a product of his environment and the Changeling gives insight to him as a person and the people around him. If you read Hope House and then read The Changeling you will find yourself shocked by a reversal of preconceived opinions. The Author gives us a Brilliant story of a smart young man who is unable to break free from the nature and urges that compel him. Very brilliantly written as each novel in series has, The Changeling maintains this high standard. Defiantly a BUY.

Cannot stop reading these stories....

Even though they are definitely some of the more disturbing reads in my library. I will continue to read anything by this author, as the journey takes you to some decisively hard-to-imagine-yourself-in places, but you find yourself cheering for some characters and wishing others would just drop dead! An excellent barometer of an authors' talent, in my opinion.
Not for the faint of heart, but if you've read the others in the series, then you already know this.

The aim of this book is to teach solid state physics through the use of problems and solutions giving orders of magnitude and answers to simple questions of this field. The numerous comments and problems in the book are inspired from some Nobel Prize–winning research in physics, such as neutron diffraction (1994), quantum Hall effect (1985), semiconducting heterostructures (1973), and tunnel microscope (1986), superconductivity (1987). The book will be helpful for undergraduate- and graduate-level students of solid state physics and chemistry and researchers in physics, chemistry, and materials science.

About the Author

Jacques Cazaux (1934–2014) was emeritus professor at the University of Reims, France. He did his undergraduate work in physics at the University of Sorbonne, Paris, and obtained his PhD in 1970 from the College of France, Paris, by submitting the thesis titled Anisotropy of Plasmons in Graphite. He then joined the University of Reims as a professor of solid state physics, and there he initiated a research laboratory on surface analysis (XPS and Auger) and material characterization (electron probe microanalysis, electron and X-ray microscopies). His research focused on the physics of secondary electron emission, and he authored more than 150 articles published in scientific journals. In recognition of his special contribution to scientific knowledge, Prof. Cazaux was invited as a speaker at more than 50 international meetings and was on the board of several scientific committees.

Good vs. Bad

CD Quality
The sound quality of the accompanying CDs are poor. I have a very good audio card and an extremely good surround sound system, but the grainy, gritty and sometimes faded sound makes it clear that these CDs were copied directly from a non-digital source. Most likely a previous recording on tape, or loop. Still, you can understand what is being said and the musical tunes are clear enough to catch. It is just very annoying to listen to, which diminishes overall enjoyment.

Type Font
The type font used in this book is standard typewriter. Some people may enjoy the vintage look it provides, but I find it bothersome to read.

Sheet Music Font
The sheet music font is hand-drawn. While this may seem classical and campy to look at, it adds another challenge for novice players. Some of the notes are too large to accommodate the bars and are thus indistinguishable from where they are supposed to be.

_Good Points_

Mr. McCullough presents a very well thought out guide to learning the Tin Whistle. His research into the history of the instrument may be a little overstated in some areas and a little on the dry side, but his teaching method is nonetheless comprehensible.

Mr. McCullough is rather verbose. He makes his points, and then remakes them, and remakes them yet again. Although some people may find the repetition beneficial, I find it confusing. To his credit he does not contradict himself.

The overall value of the book makes it well worth its price. The CDs and the information are an excellent package, compared to many other teaching books and courses about this instrument.

_Other Recommendations_

I personally prefer Labhras O Murchu's "Traditional Irish Tin Whistle tutor." The book is perfect for a true beginner, and has an excellent study in the art of reading music. The songs and styles contained are very well explained in a friendly, but direct way. Although it is not necessary to have the accompanying CD, it is immensely helpful. Sadly the book and CD are sold separately. For a true beginner I would sincerely recommend buying the CD as well. It has excellent sound quality, it follows the books lesson plan precisely, and it is wonderfully narrated.

Not for beginners

This tutorial is not for rank beginners, like me. If you have any experience at all with the pennywhistle, you might find this book and CD to be helpful. Being one completely ignorant of the instrument, the tutorial was pretty close to useless for me. The CD was not of any use also, again, for me...perhaps it would be helpful for someone else. If you've played any wind instrument before, then it might be useful, but for total novices, forget it and find something else.

Not The Best

The Clarke Tin Whistle Handbook, by Bill Ochs, is a better book for beginners, and is really the definitive tin whistle tutorial. Advanced beginners or intermediate players who have worked through the Ochs book might enjoy Cathal McConnell's book. I'd also look into the Grey Larson Irish Flute & Tin Whistle book before buying Mr. McCullough's book.
