I do love Dirty Deeds

Dirty Deeds by Liliana Hart is a Novella as part of the J.J. Graves mystery series. Jack Lawson and J.J. (Jaye) Graves have finally taken their wedding vows after solving their last murder.

Now all they want is a quiet honeymoon, relaxing on an island, and making love more times than they can count. “We can put another tally mark on the wall.” JJ said. “I don’t have the energy. Your tally mark idea is going to put me into an early grave. I need some rest and some food, woman. We’re on sex hiatus for at least an hour.” “I didn’t know marriage was going to make you so whiny.”

However, in true JJ form, trouble comes knocking at their door and now there is a dead man. JJ and Jack can’t help themselves when the local officer needs their help solving the murder of a man nearly 100 years old.

Why would anyone murder a man who probably would have died in a few months? What could rock the quietness of this small community where crime rarely happened? As they find themselves smack dab in the middle of the investigation, what they uncover could haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Liliana Hart gives us a great quick read to update us on J.J. and Jack with just enough intrigue to leave us desiring more and tapping our fingers waiting for the next book.

Fantastic Stories - All Five

This review will encompass all five books. When I started Book 1 I thought darn, just another author who can't write a decent book without dumb and explicit sex scenes. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a really good book. The scenes were not so graphic in Book 1 and the story really grabbed me. So much so that I bought the next four books. Well, I guess Ms. Hart didn't feel confidence in her story telling abilities because that's when she decided she needed the graphic sex to sell her books and the editing got sloppy. Ms. Hart, you are a fantastic story teller, you don't need to be so descriptive, your stories stand on their own merit. Leave something to the reader's imagination, for goodness sake. Your books are interesting, exciting, and well written, although you have a definite problem knowing when to use 'me' and 'I' - you need a better proof reader. I also like the fact that your stories in each book were pretty much completed. (SPOILER) You did leave us hanging where it came to J.J.'s father. Nowhere in the last book did I find that you are going to tell us more about what happened with him, you could have done that in Book 5. Will there be another J.J. Graves book? I would have given you five stars on all five books except for the reasons I've explained.

Weak. I know it is a novella but 1/2 of the book was spent "retelling" about the characters, their clothing, their past. etc. No meat at all. I was greatly disappointed as I thoroughly enjoyed the "whole" books. Hoping the next one will be better!

About the Author
Dr. Dennis P. Nolan has had a long career devoted to risk engineering, fire protection engineering, loss prevention engineering and systems safety engineering. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Business Administration from Berne University, Master of Science degree in Systems Management from Florida Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland. He is a U.S. registered professional engineer in fire protection engineering in the state of California.

He is currently on the Executive Management staff of Saudi Aramco, located in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, as a Loss Prevention Consultant/Chief Fire Prevention Engineer. He covers some of the largest oil and gas facilities in the world. The magnitude of the risks, worldwide sensitivity, and foreign location make this one the highly critical fire risk operations in the world. He has also been associated with Boeing, Lockheed, Marathon Oil Company, and Occidental Petroleum Corporation in various fire protection engineering, risk analysis, and safety roles in several locations in the United States and overseas. As part of his career, he has examined oil production, refining, and marketing facilities under severe conditions and in various unique worldwide locations, including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and North and South America. His activity in the aerospace field has included engineering support for the NASA Space Shuttle launch facilities at Kennedy Space Center (and for those undertaken at Vandenburg Air Force Base, California) and “classified” national defense systems.

Dr. Nolan has received numerous safety awards and is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, He is the author of many technical papers and professional articles in various international fire safety publications. He has written four other books, Handbook of Fire and Explosion Protection Engineering Principles for Oil, Gas, Chemical and Related Facilities (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Editions), Fire Fighting Pumping Systems at Industrial Facilities (1st & 2nd Editions), Encyclopedia of Fire Protection (1st & 2nd Editions), and Loss Prevention and Safety Control Terms and Definitions. Dr. Nolan has also been listed for many years in “Who’s Who in California”, Who’s Who in the West”, Who’s Who in the World” and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering” publications. He was also listed in “Outstanding Individuals of the 20th Century” (2001) and “Living Legends” (2004), published by the International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England.

Perfect for the beginner programmer!

I am a beginning C programmer. This book is excellent, and explains everything in clear/easy to understand detail. Just what I needed! There are "Challenges" in the back of each chapter, that test your skills. I only wish there were more "Challenges" throughout the chapters, as you move through them. Other than that, it's a great book for the beginner C programmer!

EDIT: I had a problem with one of the "Challenges" in the book. It had to do with random numbers, char, and int. I couldn't get it to work.. so I skipped that "Challenge".

I used this for my C programming class. The exercises were decent. I think some of the example code might be outdated, though. I didn't really take too much away from the content when it came to the later chapters as they seemed to be a little weak. However, the book's first few chapters made it relatively painless to get used to the world of C.

Excellent, Easy Read. A Must Have for Aspiring Doctors

Dr. Hartwig presents a concise yet thorough overview for any aspiring doctor from highschool to 4th year medical student. I had such a hard time getting into medical school, I wish I had known about this book before I started. There is a lot that goes in to the process besides just getting good grades & test scores. Becoming a doctor is a huge process and the hoops are nearly endless. Dr. Hartwig does a great job of mapping them out here and guiding you through the overwhelming process.

This book won't help you ace the MCAT or USMLE. It won't teach you pharmacology or anatomy. It will make the journey from undergrad to residency and everything in-between much less daunting and intimidating. This should be required reading for any pre-med and even most medial students.

Book is truly a how-to-guide that made me a more confidant and serious candidate

I feel like the current application cycle has gone a lot better for me thanks in great part to this book. It's probably the best $20 I have ever spent. Dr. Hartwig does more than educate the reader about process of being a premed and then eventually a doctor. He makes you think and reflect about yourself-- your past and future--in a way that makes it easy for you figure out exactly what you want to write for the primary and secondary application essays and also what you want to say during the interviews. It's not so much that he coaches you to say the right thing, whatever that may be, but rather gets you to present yourself in the best light possible. In other words, don't treat this book as a "Dummies Guide to Med School."

A little background: I was a premed with mediocre GPA and a solid MCAT. Dr. Hartwig's book navigated me in a way that I could get the committees to see my strengths and why they should select me over over great candidates. So far all 4 of my interviews have been home runs!

The book is very insightful, well written, and just great to read for anyone who wants to be a physician.

This is the only book in which Rajneesh talks about himself and the closest he will probably come to an autoboigraphy. He speaks of his childhood, enlightenment and previous incarnations and his role in world religion. For many years he travelled round India stirring up controversies wherever he went, and he relates anecdotes from this period with some relish. The book was written at the end of a period of intense activity and in it Bhagwan reflects upon his life and actions, gives clear indications of his future, and gives us tantalizing insights into reincarnate states. Thought-provoking

This book was very empowering for me as a parent. It provides some very useful ways of thinking about your child's emerging gender identity and strategies for supporting them in whatever choices them make. I now know what to say when people ask, "But what if your daughter becomes a girly girl?" or "Someday, she'll love pink and purple--it's inevitable." Most of all, the book emphasizes that it isn't a parent's job to encourage your child to follow or avoid stereotypical behaviors. It's our job to give them a range of choices and let them make their own decisions.

This book is a must-have for anyone having to do with children. It explains exactly what gender neutral parenting is (it's about being okay with whatever gender your kid turns out being, not creating little genderless people) and what you can do in practice, as well as some examples. It's not just for gender non-conforming children, but also for cisgender kids. It's just really about letting them have the freedom to explore all that they are, and respecting their findings, whether that's cis, trans*, or something different entirely. It also gives you information about what gender really is, as opposed to biological sex (which isn't as simple as we imagine it to be either). There are some great resources at the end for more reading material. The book was a fast and easy read, and the author writes in a very clear and respectful way. After all, isn't that what all relations are about? Respect? So yeah. I highly recommend it.

A must-have for any teacher, parent, or caretaker!!

I am a full time caretaker and I was raised by a super feminist. I like to consider myself unbiased and I go out of my way not to treat the boys and girls I work with differently. However, this book was life-changing. I can't believe how powerful daily overt sexism can be and how sexist so many things we all do really are.

This book illuminates how we all contribute to sexism and offers well-informed, comprehensive suggestions on how to reevaluate your influence on the people around you, not just kids. It's a light, but incredibly powerful read.
