The writing of this book was started years ago when UHCI and OHCI were just surfacing.  Then in recent years when xHCI surfaced, I once again took interest in USB and spent the time needed to finish this book.

I very much enjoyed this project and continue to work with and show interest in the USB concept and hardware, as in recently releasing the 2nd edition in late 2014 with updates, corrections, and addition information.

About the Author
Benjamin David Lunt has been programming computers since 1984 and has always enjoyed the hardware side of the spectrum.  He has programmed many different types of programs, mostly for DOS and other minimal operating systems, as well as a few programs for the Windows family.

About 13 years ago, he started to read up on the Universal Host Controller Interface (UHCI) and got hooked on the USB concept.  He has been programming for USB ever since.  One of the more known projects has been the USB support for the Bochs Emulator.

Programming is not Ben's only line of work.  He has been in the building trade since 1991, and enjoys remodeling homes.

He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and is an active member of his local Boy Scout troop.

Excellent book about interacting with USB hardware

This book was exactly what I was looking for. Excellent detail about all topics covered, and makes no assumptions about the environment in which your software runs when interacting with the hardware.

Recommended for the Basics from scratch

I bought and read the kindle edition of this book. It initially explains the PCI interface for usb host and continues with the 4 distinct usb controllers. It actually explains every aspect that you should know to write the usb driver from scratch without any os dependencies. Actually, If you write usb device driver of Windows or Linux etc. You should refer to the specific information regarding usb driver heirarchy which your target OS provides. But this book tells the basics of the USB driver from scratch. Must read for the reader who eagar to learn basics of USB device driver fundamentals.

A nice USB reference

Ben Lunt shares his enthusiasm for USB in this book, his website, and his blog. If you want to mess around with building USB hardware or writing software that drives USB devices, this book is a good starting place as well as ongoing reference. I feel bad for the author that one of the reviews above gives him one star because it's not for beginners. You'd think that would be obvious given the title. Even so, it does provide some very nice history about USB, along with details of versions 1, 2 and 3.0 of the USB standard. My main complaint is the Windows-centricity of the example code, but if you can't get over that and you run Linux or MacOS, this book is probably not for you anyway. Another bit of feedback is that the Kindle version's formatting, especially in the tables and code examples, is a bit awkward at best, and in a couple places looses information (I recommend shrinking the font quite small). Rounding up from 4.5 stars.

A significant advance for interface design

This book offers a substantive development for interface design. Bennett and Flach present the full package; a strong theoretical foundation, a comprehensive strategy of analysis, and a detailed strategy for representational design. To illustrate the intricacies in application of their design strategy, they offer design tutorials on process control, aircraft control, mobile phones, and command and control. However, their strategy can be generalized to any complex, interactive work domain.

I cannot remember the last time I was so enthusiastic about a book. Am I being overly enthusiastic? This is an area that has troubled me throughout my professional career of 30+ years. Interface design professionals have not done a good job of linking foundational theory to analysis and then following through with a strong conceptualization that links the analysis to the design. I have read many books on this topic over the years, generally finding something of value but not, until now, finding a systematic and comprehensive treatment that can transition interface design from an art form into a well-ordered discipline.

Lizzie Shane charmed me with this one!!

I have read all of Lizzie Shane's Reality Romance books so far. I must say I think I liked this one the best. I did love Lou & Jack's story but this one I think was better.
Lizzie takes a whole new spin on reality T.V. with these books and I am so happy about that. I don't watch these types of shows usually.

This was the story of Josh Pendleton, the host of the series Marrying Mister Perfect, recently divorced and not a very happy guy. He is rather sick of always having to be "on" in his life as a host to this series, after all you have to a "happy" guy to be hosting a show about finding true love. You have to believe in it too. Josh isn't so sure he does anymore.

Sidney Dewitt, part owner of Once Upon a Bride wedding planning. Hoping for her happily ever after goes on Marrying Mister Perfect and also to give her business a boost. She believes in love and the happily ever after and feels she can tell when its right. Even for her brides and grooms.

She is in the hotel the night before filming begins for the show and wants to see who the bachelor is, she is hoping that it is Daniel from the previous season. She cannot get caught leaving her room or she could get throw off the show so she figures a quick glance around couldn't hurt and then back to her room. On her was down the hall she walks into Josh Pendleton, literally, they are talking and then they hear voices coming so they both duck into his hotel room to wait them out so she can go back to her room. They talk and get to know each other a bit and Sidney feels that connection or zing she thinks is her signal for her "the one". Josh also feels something. They kiss. WOW

Sidney goes on the show and is not feeling a thing for Daniel and leaves early, feeling she is not being fair to the other suitorettes by taking a spot away from one of them. But when she leaves is when her and Josh keep getting thrown together. He tells her that he cannot date her or have anything to do with due to his job. Will they stay away from each other? Or will they take a chance?

This was a good turn on the reality series, I really did love this story. It had a lot of realism to it. I hope everyone else enjoys this read as much as I did. I know I didn't give much away with this review, but I feel that the story will sell itself.

Finally a book that fills the gaps!

I have been programming in C# from its birth.  I’ve had the opportunity to teach many levels of C# throughout the years and as a result I’ve read a lot of programming books.  Most of them fall into one of two categories:  Learn a language - Step by Step or Learn a Language - The Definitive Reference.  While these books are good at introducing the reader to the language and promoting a ‘point in time’ level of understanding they don’t typically build a firm foundation for retaining that knowledge.  That’s where Practice Your C# - Level 1 fills the gap.  
 
Do you remember learning your addition and multiplication tables?  If you were taught like I was you were given a matrix of numbers where you could derive the answer using any combination of 0 - 9.  I was taught the Step by Step method of using the matrix and could later use it as a Reference when needed but it alone didn’t facilitate learning.  However, in addition to the number matrix I was given hundreds of worksheets with hundreds of examples that I had to answer.  It was these examples (typically building in complexity) that really cemented what was taught in class.  
 
Practicing Your C# - Level 1 are those worksheets. If you want to really LEARN the concepts and methods taught in other C# books you need to supplement them with this book.  If you're a newbie, don’t use this book on its own, buy any one of your favorite programming books by your favorite author and then also buy this book.  Go through a chapter in that book and then execute and practice the corresponding examples in this book.  You can’t help but learn AND better yet retain what you’ve learned.

Overall, Practicing Your C# - Level 1 is a superb book that efficiently fills the gaps in learning a language.  When you are done with the book I’m confident you will have built a firm foundation to take your programming to the next level.  And if you are a teacher or professor you should absolutely consider supplementing your teaching with this text.  Your students will thank you.  I look forward to future levels of this book and other books by this author.

I just want to thank the author for this wonderful self teaching resource. I was just wondering when or if the other books in this volume would be coming out?? I would like to gain a deeper understanding of c# and this writing style/ teaching method is exactly what I want.

Through ornate, scabrous, funny polemics, Schreier draws the lines of relation between Jewish American literary study and American studies, multiethnic studies, critical theory, and Jewish Studies formations. He maintains that a Jewish Studies beyond ethnicity is essential for a viable future of Jewish literary study.
