this is a good resource to gain a beginning knowledge about cell salts 1-27. Pictures are good, however to help gain clarity on facial diagnosis, color is a must and my kindle falls flat on that area. Buy the book instead. I suggest getting Facial Diagnosis of Cell Salt Deficiencies by David R. Card as well as The Biochemic System of Medicine; Comprising of the Theory, Pathological Action, Therapeutic application, Materia Medica and Repertory of Schuessler's Twelve Biochemic Remedies by Dr. George R Carey for far more information, which leads to a greater understanding. There are some discrepancies between what Card's facial diagnosis depicts and Ms. Schoenfelds book states as well as information she gives, is not as in depth as Dr. Carey's book, however, all in all, this is a good book to have in one's library, it should, however, not be your only one

Very thourough

I recommend this book to anyone wishing to use tissue salts. It is a very comprehensive book that includes both the physical and mental aspects for each remedy. I wish there was more examples of facial analysis but I understand that this topic is not the main focus of the book.

Learned and am learning a lot

Very good cross referencing and rounded out ideas on what salts to use for what issues and why. What body parts and organs use what salts for which purposes. Not as much facial diagnosis in example pictures as I was hoping for, but she does write a checklist for each salt for observation of possible deficiencies. Information I wasn't expecting and was glad to see is included as far as radiation, EMF, etc. Also expanded information on salts 13 through 27 that usually are not mentioned in a book about cell salts or tissue salts. At least not that I have run into before. I'm glad I got the Kindle version as it is much easier to do a search and get results than paging through a book or marking a book. Quite nice. She does have formulas for various situations listed quite extensively.

Like one other reviewer said here, this book is purely self-promotional. It's light on content, has spelling and grammatical errors and uses a lot of redundant text (fillers). For example, every chapter begins with "you will learn how to ...", then goes light on details and ends with "you now have learned that ...". But we never learn much.

To add insult to injury, I hired Jorge after reading the book, in a desperate attempt to see if maybe he could help me out with my beverage. Turns out, he's just the same in real life as he is in the book: all talk, no action, no insight, no help.

Not considered a real book by any means.

I never write reviews. I make an exception here because this book is terrible. Brad Smith's review is SPOT ON! Even the passages he quotes from the book are WORD FOR WORD. The entire book spends pages and pages telling you everything you will learn LATER in the book--- and when you get to the second half of the book, it reminds you of everything you JUST READ, which was just the author telling you what you're GOING TO READ! I'm not exaggerating. I'm not being histrionic. The book is a gigantic exercise in temperance. And worse, it reads as if it's written by a fourth grader writing a book report the night before. If you remove the fluff, self-promotion, and incoherence, the book is twenty pages long. Even that's too generous.

Please don't buy this book. Save your money.

Beware advice on how to have a successful career...

From someone who doesn't have one, at least in the regular business world.

Yes, Gen Xers and Yers are moving into the workforce and redefining work, etc. etc. However, in most industries and companies, there are still baseline levels of comportment, behavior, etiquette, etc. that people are expected to maintain. I have worked for two Fortune 1000 companies and what I have found is that in many cases, the younger people moving in to replace Baby Boomers aren't rejecting their values and beliefs wholesale, as Trunk would have you believe, but adopting some and rejecting some others. Overall, I see more people buying into their own corporate culture and carrying on at least the major tenets than rejecting it completely.

Trunk admits on her blog she's been fired many times for a wide variety of offenses, including insubordination, inattention to her work, etc. One of my old bosses, who had an MBA from Stanford, said it best - always beware of people who make a career out of writing about having a career, rather than actually having one. I am not sure what credentials being a professional beach volleyball player gives you in the business world, but I don't necessarily think that being a professional blogger and getting one book published indicates someone is at the pinnacle of their profession, and therefore in a position to be dispensing advice to others. I don't claim to be at the pinnacle of my profession, but I can also say that I've never been fired for blowing off work assignments to work on freelance jobs. I've actually never been fired, period. My best piece of advice to any generation of worker is this: almost any company, big or small, is looking for people who make some attempt to fit themselves into the system, to some degree. While I don't believe that the whole system of paying your dues by working like crazy until you reach a particular job title is still relevant in all companies, I do think that most people are not going to be successful by going into a job and trying to get by on their looks and iconoclastic personality from day 1, which is basically what Trunk advises.

I recently read a fiction book where the author described a workplace where employees were divided into two categories: Golden Children, who could get away with almost anything without really putting their time into their work, and Work Horses, who picked up the Golden Children's slack. Most workplaces I have been part of fit that characterization pretty well. And I admit that as a Work Horse myself, being a Golden Child looks pretty good sometimes. But here's the thing. A career is a marathon, not a sprint. People do need to think strategically and make smart moves at the right time, but glossing through job after job after job expecting your looks and your chutzpah to carry the day isn't going to lead to the substantive success most people are seeking. Especially for women, relying on your looks to get you places isn't the safest bet. There are new, younger, hotter women coming into the workforce every day that you keep getting older. Somewhere along the line, you need to have some kind of skills and experience to deliver what you've sold people on. My suspicion is that Trunk was a Golden Child who couldn't deliver, time after time, and so therefore had to "create her own career" when she ended up basically unemployable after job-hopping/being fired too many times.

One more word about money - it's great if you can sponge off your parents while you find your place in the work world. It's great if you can live on $40,000 a year. Maybe for Trunk, money doesn't equal happiness, but in response to that idea, I will steal a line from one of my favorite movies and say: Look at the freakin' smile on my face - ear to ear, baby. I've worked in jobs I loved for no money and jobs I hated for a lot of money, and I can safely say that the best thing is to work a job you love that ALSO pays a lot of money. Which is totally possible, but I don't think Trunk's tips will get you there. It takes a mix of aggressive decision-making and hard work to really get to the point of true success, which is not purely defined by money, but to me, is defined by the ability to have some level of financial security (to the point where you don't have to go into debt to take a few weeks of maternity leave) and satisfaction with your work.

So advice seekers, beware this book. I imagine that if someone who is truly successful, who has truly managed to combine work and family life (like Meg Whitman of eBay) would take one look at Trunk's resume and think it was a joke. The advice in this book certainly is, and I hope there aren't a bunch of bright-eyed, bushy-tailed young career women out there taking it. What Trunk describes in this book is not true success. It's the truest version of success she's managed to talk herself into accepting, because she got handicapped by her own limitations.

Should be titled "Bad Advice: What To Do If You Want To Collect Unemployment"

Here's nothing more than a rehash of terrible advice that you can get for free by reading the author's on-line column. She seems to think that looks and appearance are what count, not skill or experience. Note that the author's career entails not working for corporate America; her thoughts on how to do little with the least could be helpful if Jim "The Cruise" Anchower needs another job to support his beer and weed habit. If you really think this could be interesting or useful (which it isn't) - be smart and just read the free on-line archive of the same.

Bad advice for most people most of the time

This book was a disappointment to me, containing significantly more bad advice than good advice. I agree with the reviewer that said the book reads as the product of the experience of an upper middle class kid who never had to worry too much about the consequences of failure or unemployment (and unemployment is where you will probably find yourself if you follow her suggestions). Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else for career advice, because most of what Ms. Roston writes about in this book is not applicable to the working situations of the great majority of people. Follow her advice at your own peril.

In my opinion, you should not buy this book.

About the Author

Robert de Levie is the author of more than 160 papers in analytical chemistry and electrochemistry, of an early Spreadsheet Workbook for Quantitative Chemical Analysis, McGraw-Hill, 1992; of a textbook on the Principles of Quantitative Chemical Analysis, McGraw-Hill 1997; of an Oxford Chemistry Primer on Aqueous Acid-Base Equilibria and Titrations, Oxford University Press, 1999; and most recently, of How to Use Excel in Analytical Chemistry, Cambridge University Press, 2001. He was born and raised in the Netherlands, earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry at the University of Amsterdam, was a postdoctoral fellow with Paul Delahay in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and for 34 years taught analytical chemistry and electrochemistry at Georgetown University. For ten of those years, he was the US editor of the Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry. Now an emeritus professor, he lives on Orr's Island, and is associated with Bowdoin College in nearby Brunswick, Maine.

Excellent for scientists and engineers

Advanced Excel does very well what it does, so your main concern is whether what it does interests you. The book is intended for engineers and scientists who do real computation, not intended for those making turnkey applications for businesses.
Three chapters describe the use of Excel for least squares fitting. Treatment is authoritative, including things like phantom relations, orthogonal polynomials, fitting to a Lorentzian, finding the derivative of data, and so forth. Although there is a lot of detail, it is well presented, and you will be able to follow without being an expert yourself. Less extensive but still detailed are chapters on Fourier analysis and on convolution and deconvolution. A brief introduction to numerical integration of ordinary differential equations is exactly that, introductory. Tons of references to other literature are provided.
So, if you have a specialized interest in these topics, this book is a must. What else is here?
Approximately the last half of the book is devoted to writing macros, and to a presentation of macros used in the first half of the book. The publisher maintains a web site where these can be downloaded, saving you the tedium and error of typing them into your computer from the book. The approach is to use message boxes to communicate with computation in VBA. VBA is used primarily as a programming language, and there is rather little about the Excel object model. You will learn very little about worksheet manipulation using VBA.
The reader with less interest in the applications, but an interest in applying Excel to their own problems, will also find a lot of interesting details here. The author knows a lot about Excel, and you will pick up not only the big picture, but also many useful details. For example, how to call Solver from a macro. How to line your charts up with the spreadsheet grid. How to make the most of Excel's graphic abilities.
This book is NOT the typical Excel book full of screen shots and low on content. It teaches by example. By going through the examples presented, you really will learn how to use Excel for your application too.

Advanced Is Not Used Lightly in this Book's Title

If I had written this book I think I would have called it Scientific Excel rather than Advanced Excel. To be sure, the book is certainly for advanced Excel users, but it won't help you do an advanced business application.

You'd best have some knowledge about Excel before starting this one. There's a brief survey of Excel at the beginning that starts off comparing a spreadsheet to an accountant's ledger. That's pretty basic. Anyone with any Excel experience at all can follow the first three pages. On page four he is talking about making a thousand point plot with random numbers, normal distribution -- no longer something from Excel for Dummies. By page 5 he's calculating averages and standard deviations. By the end of this Survey chapter he's talking about the accuracy of the calculations performed by Excel.

Subsequent chapters discuss various types of mathematical manipulation that are often needed in the analysis of scientific data.

There are three chapters on Least Squares. This is the fitting of a curve to collected data so that the trends might be more easily visualized.

There is a chapter on Fourier Transformations, which is the probably the most frequently used analysis tool when working in signal processing. Geophysical seismic data, radar receivers, cell phone systems are all processed primarily using Fourier Transforms. This kind of data is of course too voluminous for Excel, but the techniques used here would be ideal for quite a number of laboratory applications.

A couple of chapters cover convolution, deconvolution, and time-frequency analysis as well as Numerical integration of ordinary differential equations.

All of these processing tasks are done using macros. These are described in the book, or can be downloaded from the author's website -- [...] This web site also includes some additional macros that enhance Excel's computationability when handling numbers of higher precision.

The final four chapters of the book are on writing your own or modifying existing macros, with an orientation to scientific analysis.

I consider this to be almost a mandatory book for anyone interested in using Excel to analysis scientific data.

Scientific number-crunching with Excel

This book by Robert de Levie is a thorough and comprehensive how-to guide to the use of the Excel program on common numerical tasks in physical science. It starts with a chapter that surveys the capabilities of the Excel program itself. It then continues with three chapters of progressively increasing sophistication on the method of least squares, followed by single chapters on Fourier transformation, convolution and deconvolution, and numerical solution of differential equations. The final four chapters are given over to the writing of macros and the author's presentation of the many macros he has developed in the course of solving the problems illustrated in the book. Readers should be aware that all of these macros, as well as the numerical data used in many of the examples, are also available in computer-readable form from the publisher's web site and, in fact, are available to purchasers and nonpurchasers alike.

I should acknowledge at the outset that I am very much NOT a fan of Excel. However, the program is by now so firmly established that there is little doubt of the value of the contents of this book to many in the intended audience of scientists and engineers. Moreover, there is also plenty of value for those of us who prefer to use computational tools other than Excel. Since my own primary interests relative to this book fall within the chapters on least-squares methods, that is where I will direct my specific comments.

As already noted, the book is about computations, not about theory, so although key working equations are often presented, they are seldom derived. Thus a beginner wanting to understand the method of least squares might want to consult another source to complement the "nuts and bolts" provided by the examples illustrated here.

Chapter 2 is devoted to the simplest of least-squares (LS) problems, unweighted fitting to a straight line (including one forced to go through the origin). This chapter also introduces the important topic of propagation of error (called propagation of imprecision by the author in an attempt to improve the terminology). A number of common applications are considered, the most important of which is probably the role of linear LS in calibration in analytical chemistry. This is, incidentally, an application where the common textbook expressions for error propagation lead to incorrect estimates of the imprecision; but de Levie "does it right."

Chapter 3 continues with linear LS, but now involving fitting to functions more complex than a straight line and often involving three or more adjustable parameters. (Note that the "linear" in linear LS refers to the manner in which the adjustable parameters occur in the fit function, not to the shape of the function itself; some authors refer to this as "multilinear.") The coverage begins with fitting to polynomials and is later extended to orthogonal polynomials. Toward the end of the chapter, weighted LS is introduced; this is needed to deal with the problem of transforming nonlinear fit relationships into linear ones, like exponentials (log transformation) and hyperbolic relationships (reciprocal transformation). Most of the examples in this chapter are from analytical and physical chemistry and are often encountered in the chemical teaching literature. These include the analysis of diatomic spectroscopic data (I2 and HCl), the analytical problem of estimating species abundances from UV-visible spectra of mixtures, and the treatment of enzyme kinetics data.

Chapter 4 turns to nonlinear LS, in which iterative methods are needed to obtain the solutions to the minimization problem at the heart of LS. The tool for accomplishing this task in Excel is the Solver routine. Solver has one glaring limitation, namely the failure to provide the statistical errors in the adjustable parameters. De Levie has solved that problem with his own macro, SolverAid. The capabilities of these routines are illustrated on a number of examples, again mostly from the realm of analytical chemistry and spectroscopy. Among the more unusual examples are fits of titration data, of discontinuous functions, and of continuous functions taken piecewise. Toward the end are included some illustrations of the performance of Solver on some benchmark nonlinear fitting problems provided by NIST (National Institute for Science and Technology).

I have personally checked many of the examples illustrated in these three chapters using other methods, and I can vouch for their general validity. In a few cases there are errors, but many of these have been corrected by the author since the first printing of the book. Users should consult the publisher's web site for a listing of these.

In summary, this work will prove a valuable addition to the bookshelves of Excel-oriented "number-crunchers." For those who prefer programs other than Excel, the examples can still provide useful instruction. For this group, the Excel material is of no use but also no real impediment. For those who hope to learn both data analysis and Excel at the same time, from "scratch," I doubt that this book will fill the bill: You'll probably need to start with more elementary treatises in both areas. I must admit that my aversion to the Excel program itself and its heavy focus in this book is what prevents me from giving the book the maximum rating.

I loaned out my old copy and never got it back, so just bought a new copy....does that tell you how much I like this book?

I've read my share of these type of books, and this one is at the top of my list with Angelnook Publishing Books!

If you believe that changing your thinking will change your life, that we can control our thoughts and by doing so improve our over all circumstances, you'll find this book extremely helpful.

I must say one of my favorite books on this topic, I was very very surprised with this book. The book and chapter selection is nice and WAY more than I ever expected. I definitely did not expect to find such book treasure.

I would recommend it for anyone.

Forget the studies, surveys, and articles in Newsweek or HBR laced with biases and deceptive journalism.

The answers you seek are far more simple and within reach and this book makes it clear to understand and recognize why some people achieve and some hide and reach for comfort

I wonder if Success Magazine, which is still around, ever reprints chapters or qoutes from their founder? This book, along with others, are some of the best self-help books I've read. The way this guy puts across spiritual principles and metaphysical teachings is incredable. These are books that I will be reading again and again over the years. Just great.

A welcome addition to a magick library

This is a well organized and delightful reference book on the basic elements of magic. It covers the basics, including setting up an altar, what the basic tools are and how to consecreate them, succinct chapters on the Tree of Life, the major arcana and assigned to the twenty-two paths of the Tree, including the occult meaning for each of these cards based on Hermetic philosophy, and instructions for performing the major rituals essential to magic study, including the Kabalistic Cross, the Middle Pillar, the Greater and Lesser Rituals of the Pentagram and the Hexagram, and more. The chapter on Alchemy includes a pithy section on condensers, gold condensers, Universal solid and liquid condensers, Elemental fluid condensors, plus tinctures and other alchemical processes. There is even a section on the tattwa cards used for meditation and scrying, popularized by the Golden Dawn.
This book is quite condensed and the information is well organized, concise, and ready to use. It serves as a good overview of the essentials of ritual magic, and while it does introduce these concepts, perhaps this book would be more for the intermediate occultist looking to take the leap.
This book is not just another rehashed magic text. Some of the topics, like the Alchemical processes, are not often found in general magic books.

Compact, excellent quick resource

A friend of mine first pointed out this book to me in a book store. If nothing else, I was entranced by the handsome, legant beauty of this little tome.
But pretty books don't get my dollars. It was the information within that sold me. It contains the highest percentage of the best, most accurate and USEFUL magical information that a magician would need to know, all in a very small package. This book could be likened a miniature encyclopedia which contains quick, to-the-point, information on nearly every aspect of Western Magick (with a dash of the best of the Eastern teachings at the end of the book) without droning on and on with useless drivel that you could find in almost any other modern book on Western Magic.
And of special import to me is the fact that the author is one of the VERY few out there who recognizes that the 'traditional' elemental associations in regards to the magician's Tools, (i.e. wands=fire & swords=air) is flat out WRONG. In case you were wondering, as far as the Tools are concerned, wands=air & swords=fire.
Ironically though, if there is any wrong information in the book, it would have to be that the surprisingly correct elemental magical Tool association is not transferred to the Tarot Minor Arcana, meaning that the 'traditional' Tarot elemental associations still apply in this book (wands=fire, swords=air, cups=water, pentacles=earth). I found this error minor, and was not entirely upset about this, as the only author I know who has ever even attempted to correct this ancient mistake of Tarot elemental association in Western Magick is William Blystone, whose works will be published very soon.
All in all, I highly recommend this book to any magician, beginner or otherwise.

Nice little Tome

This book is almost an offshoot of the one written by King and Skinner titled "Techniques of High Magic" with added information and rituals, both eastern and western in tradition.
For any practicing Magician, a nice piece to have around the temple or alter.
The material was well put together, making information easily accessable.
The paper was durable, print multicolored, simulated leather cover with 2 ribbons to tie shut when travelling.
I purchased a second one to send to a Magician I know in Chicago as a gift....and finding the second one in hardcover was difficult.

Excellent

I am currently a student online in a Law class and this was the needed book. I was not sure at the time I purchased if I wsa going to keep this book or resale it. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the book and will keep for future reference. Anyone that is in school, working in business, this is a great tool to have. It is easy to read and understand. This book has made learning business law easy.

Nice book

It was a good book, Worked perfect for the class, and i liked the digital format.
My only complant is that with the amazon reader you can only see one page at a time.
WORK ON THIS AMAZON!
It is a text book, not a math or science one, it has heavy reading, and not a single picture i cared about.
I for one, would rather use my kindle to read this rather than a monitor. - Kindle fires don't count!

Flexercises provide a wide range of student learning and assessment opportunities.
Business Law Simulation Exercises for Managers: The new edition features three business law simulation exercises. In each exercise, students are provided with facts, law and cases related to a hypothetical business dispute and are assigned to analyze the material, understand the legal and ethical issues presented and the work toward a resolution. These simulations are excellent for review and reinforcement, as they pertain directly to topics in the textbook.
Award winning capstone case: Charbucks v. Starbucks: This case study centers on the dilemmas of actual corporations that were faced with a corporate crisis involving legal and ethical issues. It is intended to help students connect several different legal and ethical concepts in a single case study. First, students reread concept summaries from specific chapters to reinforce their knowledge of specific legal issues. Second, students study a narrative of facts of the case, dynamics of the marketplace and important trend of the time. Discussion questions are grouped by subject matter, and ethical decision-making questions are integrated into each case. This feature also provides a short exercise designed for use as a writing assignment, small group work, or class discussion.
Legal/Ethical Discussion Points: This new feature is strategically placed in parts of the text where the instructor may wish to have students reflect on the ethical dimension of a legal problem. These discussion points encourage critical thinking about a particular topic of law and/or ethics of a legal solution.
Over 40 new cases added including cutting edge cases such as: Arizona v. U.S. (Immigration); U.S. v. Alvarez (Stolen Valor Act); Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association (Violent Video Games); U.S. v. Bhagat (Insider trading). Cases adopt a â€˜hybridâ€™ format is included instead of lengthy excerpts from judicial opinions. Cases include 1) summary of the fact, 2) a decision and opinion synopsis, 3) short excerpts from the actual opinion called (Words of the course), and 4) case questions to facilitate discussion.
The second edition includes expanded coverage of contracts by splitting Chapter 6 "Overview and Formation of Contracts" into two separate chapters "Chapter 6 Overview and Language of Contracts" and Chapter 7 "Contract Formation."
